Variation No. One – Inside Whipping Punch

In this variation of Doan Chee Sao, the focus is on the use of correct energy in repositioning the protective structured action of the inside whipping punch to clear the centreline “bridge” defences of your opponent when it is impossible to penetrate otherwise.

Included in the classic Wudang Weng Shun Kuen set is seven movements of the arms, touching (lightly) with correct focusing of the attacks, an important discipline.

This drill is repeated many times before exchanging hands. 

  1. Open Hand Block
  2. Vertical Palm Attack
  3. Inside Whipping Punch
  4. Monkey Hand
  5. Drop Elbow Block
  6. Wing Arm Block
  7. Open Hand Block

Variation No. Two – Outside Whipping Punch

The variation of Doan Chee Sao using the outside whipping punch is executed to flow around a strong centreline “bridge” position and effectively complete the exercise with a correct release of power.

In this set is six movements of the arms, touching (lightly) with correct focusing of the attacks an important discipline.

This series is repeated many times before switching hands.

  1. Open Hand Block
  2. Vertical Palm Attack
  3. Outside Whipping Punch
  4. Monkey Hand
  5. Drop Elbow Block
  6. Open hand Block

Considered Notes:

Ensure the use of the scapular for both attacks and blocks.

It follows the elbow does not stray from the immovable elbow line which aids the scapula spring energy.
